Fact is, renting a jet may be more affordable than you have been led to believe. From a special romantic weekend excursion to an impromptu business meeting or family getaway, renting a private jet ranks among the best (and most unforgettable) ways to travel.

How Much to Rent a Jet?

How much it costs to rent a private jet is dependent on several factors. For example, the distance travelled, type of jet required, destination, round vs one-way trip, time of year, how far in advance the jet is booked and more.

What do I Need to Know to Get an Accurate Quote on Renting a Jet for a Day?

At Bitlux, a simple phone call is all that is needed to connect you with a private jet charter specialist who is friendly, knowledgeable and ready to help you get an accurate quote in minutes or less.

You can also obtain a quote quickly and reliably online.

But before you make that call or inquiry, there are some key pieces of information that you’ll want to have available in order to make sure you get exactly what you need.

1. Where is Your Desired Destination?

The destination has a big impact on how much you can expect to pay to rent a jet for a day. Airport fees, pilot availability, necessary fuel, local taxes and more can all play a role in the final price.

Every make and model has a specific fuel capacity and is rated for short, mid, or long-range travel. For example, certain small jets may not be capable of making the trip over an ocean where no intermediate pit stops are available to refuel. Because of this, the desired destination will impact which aircraft is most appropriate for your trip, limiting which will be available to rent, and each with varying costs

2. Number of Passengers & Amount of Luggage

Not only do aircrafts have limited seating, but they also have to adhere to strict capacity limits in terms of load/weight in order to operate safely. The number of passengers and needed luggage will (in part) determine which models of aircrafts are appropriate or available. As a general rule of thumb, the larger the private jet, the most it will cost to rent.

Lastly, additional passengers and luggage also decrease the jet’s efficiency, requiring more fuel to carry the load, and resulting in an increased cost.

Factors Affecting the Cost of Renting a Jet

Aircraft Category

This refers to the size of the jet. Typically, the larger the aircraft, the more it will cost you to rent.

Aircraft Type

Type refers to the make and model of the aircraft. Different types come with different sets of unique features, amenities and pros and cons to consider.

Billable Flight Time

Private jets are rented out based on what is called “flight time”. This is simply an hourly calculation on time from boarding to landing, otherwise known as “wheels up to wheels down”, and includes fees to cover fuel surcharges, flight crew, and more.

Average Costs to Rent a Private Jet

Despite the variance in costs, we can provide some basic estimates to give you an idea of what it would cost to rent a private jet for a day.

Private jets are typically billed per “flight house” at a rate that generally ranges from $2000 up to $10,000 per hour on the high end. These rates cover a range of makes models and sizes of aircraft, from small turboprops to long-range executive jets. Learn more: Private Jet Rental Costs

What’s the Most Economical Private Jet to Rent?

When it comes to renting private jets, typically “Turboprops” are the most cost-effective option so long as they fit your other needs (i.e. passengers, luggage, travel distance, etc.). These ultra-light jets are often referred to as “executive light jets” and can range between $2000-$2800 per flight hour on average (although other factors can bring this cost up or down).

How Much Does Renting a Mid-Size or Super Midsize Jet Cost?

These jets have more cargo space, additional seating capacity, and are capable of longer flights without the need to refuel. Some also offer additional amenities and features not found on smaller jets. Renting one of these for the day will typically cost you between $2900 up to around $6000 per flight hour.

Ok, What about Large and Ultra Long Range Private Jets?

As you might have guessed, these big boy toys will cost you the most, ranging between $6000 upwards of $10,000 per flight hour within the USA, and generally higher if you plan on traveling internationally.

Renting Ultra-Luxury VIP Airliners

Jets falling into this classification (including BBJs and ACJs) are uniquely outfitted and designed with executive configurations. Typical costs run between $11,000-$18,000 per billable flight hour.

Other Possible Fees to Consider When Renting a Private Jet

Landing Fees: These fees are imposed by the airport authority and vary per location. They are used to maintain and operate the facility. Fees typically run between $150-$500 based on both the weight and size of the jet you are renting.

Ramp and Handling: A fee imposed by the FBO (fixed-base operator), and used to cover the costs of both handling and parking the aircraft. Typically range between $100-$500 and may be waived if a minimum amount of fuel is purchased.

US Segment Fees: Typically calculated on a per passenger basis, these fees are a government tax that varies by region. In the US, this fee is set at $4.30 per passenger per leg.

Federal Excise Tax: At a rate of 7.5% this federal excise tax is required for all US domestic flight legs.

How Much Does a Private Jet Cost to Buy?

Interested in weighing the cost of purchasing a jet vs. renting?

The cost of purchasing your own jet airliner varies considerably depending on its age, condition, model, manufacturer, features and more. For example, an old 1979 Falcon 10 with around 10,000 miles on the clock might run you around $400,000, whereas a fresh off the line Gulfstream 550 could set you back up to $50 million.

The decision to purchase a jet vs. renting is both a personal one as well as one that should take into consideration:

  • Cashflow
  • Finances / Financing Terms
  • Maintenance, upkeep and insurance costs
  • Flight staff/pilot costs
  • Frequency of use
  • Tax / write-off potential
  • And more…
