Greater Chicago has one of the busiest private-aviation markets in North America, spread across airports in every direction. The right one depends on where you’re actually going, which aircraft you’re flying, and whether you need customs. A note experienced flyers already know: O’Hare is the busiest and least convenient option for private travel — the main business-aviation fields are Chicago Executive (PWK), Midway (MDW), and DuPage (DPA). Here’s the full picture.
FBOs: Atlantic Aviation, Signature Flight Support, Hawthorne Global
Drive time: ~30 min to the Loop; minutes to Northbrook, Deerfield, the North Shore
Runway: 5,001 ft — up to super-midsize
Best for: The primary business-aviation airport. Best for the northern suburbs and the North Shore corporate belt (I-94 corridor). Handles light through super-midsize jets. The default efficient choice for most Chicago trips.
FBOs: Atlantic Aviation, Signature Flight Support
Drive time: ~20–25 min to the Loop
Runway: 6,522 ft — up to heavy
Best for: Fastest door-to-door to downtown. Best for the Loop, South Loop, River North, McCormick Place events, and Hyde Park. Handles up to heavy jets; slots tighten around peak airline hours.
FBOs: DuPage Flight Center (on-field, airport-run)
Drive time: ~35–45 min to the Loop; short hop to Naperville, Oak Brook, Wheaton
Runway: 7,571 ft — up to heavy; on-field CBP
Best for: The western corporate corridor. Best for Naperville, Oak Brook, Warrenville, and larger aircraft — 7,571 ft runway takes heavy jets, and on-field U.S. Customs clears international arrivals.
FBOs: Signature Flight Support
Drive time: ~30–40 min to the Loop (traffic-dependent)
Runway: 13,000 ft — any aircraft; full CBP
Best for: The busiest, least convenient option for private flyers — chosen when you need it, not by default. Best for international arrivals requiring customs, ultra-long-range/large-cabin aircraft, and the northwest corporate district (Schaumburg, Rosemont). Longer taxi times from airline congestion.
FBOs: Signature Flight Support (full-service)
Drive time: ~45–55 min to the Loop; serves Lake County & far north suburbs
Runway: 6,000 ft — most business jets; on-field CBP
Best for: Low-traffic northern alternative. Best for Lake County, the far North Shore, and southern Wisconsin. On-field U.S. Customs for international arrivals. Takes most business jets (6,000 ft).
FBOs: Lumanair Aviation, Clow/JA Air (charter handling)
Drive time: ~55–65 min to the Loop; serves the far west & Fox Valley
Runway: 6,501 ft — up to super-midsize
Best for: The quiet option for the far western suburbs and Fox Valley (Aurora, Geneva, Batavia). Handles light through super-midsize jets (6,501 ft). A good reliever when DPA is busy.
FBOs: Gary Jet Center, B. Coleman Aviation
Drive time: ~30–40 min to the Loop; closest field to the South Side & NW Indiana
Runway: 8,859 ft — any business jet; on-field CBP
Best for: Closest option for the South Side and northwest Indiana, and a strong overflow when Midway is full. On-field U.S. Customs. Its 8,859 ft runway (longest after O’Hare) takes any business jet and VIP airliners.
FBOs: Emery Air, Atlantic Aviation
Drive time: ~75–90 min to the Loop; serves Rockford & the far NW
Runway: 8,200 ft — any aircraft; CBP
Best for: Far-northwest option for Rockford and northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin. Full-length runways take any aircraft, with U.S. Customs for international arrivals. Best when your destination is out that direction, not for central Chicago.

Most Chicago trips center on the business core or a specific event. For downtown stays, the Gold Coast, River North, and the Magnificent Mile put clients within reach of the Loop and McCormick Place; the Peninsula, Four Seasons, and Waldorf Astoria are the usual choices. Chicago’s dining is genuinely destination-grade — the metro holds multiple Michelin-starred rooms — and we can coordinate ground transport from your FBO straight to a reservation, a meeting, or a game. Tell our desk your itinerary and we’ll time the flights around it.

It depends on aircraft class, route, and date. Short hops run lower; a Chicago→New York flight starts around $11,200 one-way in a light jet, while longer legs like Scottsdale or Cabo run higher. As a guide, expect roughly $11,000–$30,000 one-way for most domestic routes depending on cabin size, and more for heavy or ultra-long-range aircraft. Your final quote is a fixed, all-in number — tell our desk your route, date, and headcount and we’ll price it, usually same day.
Typical occupied-hour ranges are about $3,400–$4,800 for a light jet, $4,400–$6,200 midsize, $5,100–$7,200 super-midsize, $6,800–$10,500 heavy, and $9,500–$14,500 for ultra-long-range aircraft. Hourly rates are an estimate of aircraft time only — taxes, segment fees, landing and FBO handling, and any repositioning are additional, and most operators apply a 1–2 hour daily minimum.
Sometimes. An empty leg is a repositioning flight an aircraft flies without passengers — when your date, direction, and aircraft happen to match one, you can book it at a discount off the standard rate. The tradeoff is flexibility: empty legs are tied to another trip’s schedule, so timing is fixed and can change. We don’t publish a live board (availability shifts hourly), but tell our desk your route and date window and we’ll flag any matches as they come up.
It depends on where you are. Chicago Executive (PWK) is the main business-aviation field and best for the north suburbs and North Shore. Midway (MDW) is fastest to downtown and the Loop. DuPage (DPA) serves the western corporate corridor (Naperville, Oak Brook) and has on-site customs. O’Hare (ORD) is the busiest and least convenient for private flyers — used mainly for international arrivals and the largest jets. Gary (GYY), Waukegan (UGN), Aurora (ARR), and Rockford (RFD) serve outlying areas. We pick the best field for your destination on every quote.
For standard dates, 48–72 hours is comfortable, and we can often turn around same-day or next-day trips subject to aircraft and crew availability. Book earlier for peak periods — major conventions at McCormick Place, holidays, and big sports or event weekends tighten aircraft and FBO availability and raise pricing. The sooner you call, the more options we can put in front of you.
Our quote is a fixed, all-in price for the trip: aircraft, crew, standard FBO handling, and applicable taxes and fees. What’s extra and called out separately: in-flight catering beyond standard, ground transport, international customs fees, and de-icing in winter. There’s no membership or card required — you get a per-trip price. Tell our desk your route, date, and passenger count and we’ll send a clear breakdown.
