Nearby Airport Alternatives

Depending on where you’re headed, a South Florida airport just outside Miami can be the faster or more cost-effective option. We also coordinate charter from Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International (FLL) and Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) to the north, and from Boca Raton (BCT) — which sits right by our home base — for clients in the Palm Beach/Boca corridor. Your Fly Bitlux desk will recommend the airport that best fits your route, aircraft, and schedule.

OPF vs. MIA: The Call That Actually Matters

This is the real decision point for a Miami charter, and it’s not close for most private trips.

Opa-Locka Executive (OPF) is a dedicated GA and charter field with an 8,002-foot main runway, three FBOs, and zero airline traffic to sequence behind. It’s 10 miles north of downtown Miami call it 20–30 minutes depending on where you’re headed. For a charter flight, OPF means faster taxi, faster curb-to-wheels, and a ramp built for private aircraft instead of squeezed in around a commercial schedule.

Miami International (MIA) is one of the busiest commercial gateways in the country, with the longest public-use runway in Florida at 13,016 feet. You can fly charter into MIA, and for certain long-range or heavy-metal trips it’s the right call but you’re on a ramp shared with scheduled airline traffic, which means more taxi time, more wake-turbulence spacing, and ground handling that competes with international airline arrivals. MIA makes sense when your routing, aircraft, or international clearance specifically calls for it. For most domestic Miami charters, it’s the slower option, not the faster one.

Where MIA genuinely wins is international arrival. CBP operates there around the clock, seven days a week, through a dedicated Federal Inspection Station a facility separate from the FBO and the passenger terminals, not an on-request arrangement. Inbound international flights need permission to land filed at least two hours before departing the foreign port, and aircraft block at the CBP ramp unless the tower directs otherwise. If your trip lands from abroad at 0300, MIA clears you; most relievers won’t.

Miami Executive (TMB), 13 miles southwest in the Tamiami/Kendall area, is the third option useful if your ground destination is south Miami-Dade (Homestead, Kendall, Coral Gables’ southern end). It has a published noise-abatement program and restricted runway hours on two of its three strips, so your broker checks the runway schedule before confirming TMB for your trip.

Our default: OPF, unless your aircraft, route, or international clearance specifically requires MIA or your ground destination makes TMB the shorter drive.

When People Fly to Miami — Seasonality & Pricing

Miami’s private-charter demand is highly seasonal. The winter high season runs roughly December through April, when snowbird traffic and events tighten aircraft availability and push peak pricing. The sharpest spike is early December around Art Basel Miami Beach (December 5–7, 2025), when inbound demand surges and aircraft, FBO slots, and crews book out well in advance. If you’re flying into Miami in that window, reserve as early as you can — both to lock an aircraft and to avoid peak-date pricing. Summer and early fall are quieter, with more availability and softer rates.

Miami Private Jet Charter FAQs

Should you fly into OPF or MIA for a Miami trip?

Choose OPF (Opa-locka Executive) for most private trips — it’s a dedicated general-aviation field with faster ramp access, less congestion, and on-field customs by appointment. Choose MIA if you’re on a larger aircraft or an international itinerary that needs the full commercial customs Federal Inspection Station. We assign the airport based on your aircraft, headcount, and whether the trip crosses a border.

How much does it cost to charter a private jet from Miami?

One-way pricing starts around $4,500–$9,000 for short hops like Bimini and climbs into the $30,000–$45,000 range for cross-country or high-altitude trips on larger cabins. Your final price depends on aircraft size, route, date, and season — you get a fixed, all-in quote before you book.

What is the hourly rate for a private jet in Miami by cabin class?

Typical market hourly rates run about $3,400–$4,800 for light jets, $4,800–$6,500 midsize, $6,500–$8,800 super-midsize, $8,800–$11,500 heavy/large-cabin, and $11,000–$14,500 for ultra-long-range aircraft. Rates exclude taxes, fuel surcharges, and repositioning, and minimums may apply.

Can you book an empty leg flight from Miami?

Yes. Empty legs are one-way repositioning flights an aircraft already needs to make, offered at a reduced rate. Ask your Fly Bitlux desk to flag empty-leg options on your route — availability is tied to someone else’s schedule, so dates and aircraft are fixed and can change on short notice.

Do you tip the crew on a private jet?

Tipping isn’t required and is never expected, but it’s welcome if your crew goes above and beyond. If you’d like to include gratuity, your Fly Bitlux desk can handle it as part of the trip so you don’t need to manage it onboard.

How far in advance should you book a private jet from Miami?

For most dates, a few days’ notice gives you solid aircraft choice, and same-day or next-day domestic trips are often possible. During the December–April winter high season and especially Art Basel week in early December, book four to six weeks out for better availability and pricing.
