Before the 1820s, the Napa Valley was inhabited solely by Native American tribes. In the early part of the 19th century a small community of European settlers built their homes here, and in 1847, Californian pioneer Nathan Coombs laid down the official town plans.
John Patchett planted the areas first vines in 1854, and wine production began just three years later. Today the city is a thriving community, home to around 80,00 people.
